What is Emotional Intelligence..? 

Emotional intelligence is the ability to evaluate emotions , control and perceive them. Researches show link between emotional intelligence and success. Not everyone may be in-built with this, but unlike IQ it can be acquired and improved with practice.

The ability to express and control emotions is essential but so is the ability to understand, interpret and respond to emotions of others. It can be understand in a way that it's an ability to control our emotions in a positive way to relive stress, overcome challenges and communicate effectively.




Emotional intelligence helps you to build stronger relationships at your workplace and helps in achieving your career and goals. It can also help you to connect with your feelings, turn intention into action.


Why is emotional intelligence so important?

We all know people who are academically brilliant and yet are unsuccessful at their work or in their personal relationships. Your IQ is alone not enough for you to achieve success in your life. Yes, IQ helps you in getting marks or a job but in your entire academic journey, learning journey and earning journey the type of power you need to interact with others or the stress or emotion bearing capacity to tackle you need to have Emotional intelligence or Emotional Quotient. IQ and EQ works better when they go hand in hand.

Thinking Before Reacting

Emotionally intelligent people know that the emotions can be very strong, but can also be temporary. When a highly charged emotional event happens, such as becoming angry with a colleague, the emotionally intelligent response would be to take some time before responding. This allows everyone to calm their emotions and think more wisely about all the factors surrounding the argument.


Empathy for Others

Emotional intelligence is being able to think about and empathize with how other people are feeling. This often involves considering how you  respond if you were in the same situation.

People who have strong emotional intelligence are able to consider the perspectives, experiences, and emotions of other people and use this information to explain why people behave the way that they do.



High Self-Awareness

Emotionally intelligent people are not only good at thinking about how other people  feel but they also understand their own feelings. Self-Awareness allows people to think of various factors on their emotions.



Some different ways to practice emotional intelligence include:
  1. Being able to say no when you need to
  2. having great listening skills
  3. being able to accept responsibility
  4. being able to accept criticism
  5. being able to share your feelings with others
  6. being able to move on after you commit a mistake
  7. being able to solve problem in a way that works for everyone
  8. having empathy for others
  9. knowing why you do the things you do
  10. not being judgmental for others

Emotional intelligence is important for good interpersonal skills. Some experts believe that this ability is more important in determining life success than IQ alone. Fortunately, there are things that you can do to strengthen your own social and emotional intelligence.

Understanding emotions can be the key to better relationships, improved well-being, and stronger communication skills.

POTENTIAL TRAPS:

People having lower emotional intelligence face number of problems in life including in work and other relations.

People who have fewer emotional skills tend to get in more arguments, have lower quality relationships, and have poor emotional coping skills.

Having low emotional intelligence can have a number of drawbacks, but having a very high level of emotional skills can also have some challenges. For example:
  • 1.Research show that people with high emotional intelligence may actually be less creative and innovative.
  • 

  • 2.Highly emotionally intelligent people may have a hard time in delivering negative feedback for fear of hurting other people's feelings.

  • 3.Research has found that high EQ can sometimes be used for manipulative and deceptive purposes.
